The Opportunity

Planetizen is looking for a talented Video Producer & Editor to join our team. The Video Producer & Editor will be responsible for producing, filming, and editing high-quality video course content, with a high degree of autonomy and ownership for all new courses published on the platform being managed by the Editorial Manager. This role will also help create the vertical video content for Planetizen’s social media channels with a heavy focus on promoting course content, working under the direction of the marketing director.

This is the right role for a resourceful, tenacious, and growth-oriented team player, passionate about the potential of video to educate and contribute to the process of planning a prosperous, sustainable, and equitable built environment. Successful candidates will have experience or strong interest in the urban planning industry, or a closely related field, and will recognize and value the terminology, concepts, and personalities of planning and be able to work with the Planetizen editorial/marketing teams as well as industry experts. The Video Producer & Editor is a key member of the team at Planetizen, working directly with the instructors, editorial manager, and marketing director to create educational content to inform the entire planning field—planners, designers, and citizens.

Key Deliverables

  • Educational Video Content Creation - Working with subject matter experts, produce best-in-class educational video content published on our website and social media channels that effectively communicates urban planning concepts, tools, and best practices. This involves planning, filming, editing, publishing, archiving, and reporting on video content.
  • Audience Growth and Engagement on Social Media through vertical video - Execute on our social media video strategy by repurposing course content into vertical video clips, creating specialized marketing content in tandem with instructors, influencers, and partners, and ultimately turning around at least 3 vertical video posts per week in support of the strategy.
  • Performance Feedback and Optimization - Understand and report video content performance. Make recommendations to process and content improvements. Continually help refine content strategies, ensuring that the video training remains relevant, current, and effectively meets educational goals.
  • Team collaboration - Collaborate with content and marketing teams to help plan, develop, create, and launch video content that achieves business objectives. Work closely with the editorial manager to identify trends, topics, and opportunities for new courses and content that meet the needs of the urban planning community. Work closely with the marketing director to ensure that the YouTube growth strategy is properly informed by your insights.

Success metrics

In your first 3 months

  • Learn about the Planetizen brand, content, products, and audience.
  • Produce and publish your first Planetizen courses.
  • Produce and publish your first social media videos.

In your first year

  • With support from the team, execute on the content strategy by producing and publishing video courses.
  • Develop a process for creating and publishing engaging videos regularly across social media platforms.
  • Help us 2x our reach across social media channels within the year.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience producing and editing high-quality educational or instructional video content, with a portfolio that demonstrates expertise in conveying complex concepts through video.
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Creative Suite, Figma/Canva, and other digital tools.
  • Knowledge of vertical video trends, formats, and best practices on social media.
  • Experience with or strong interest in urban planning.
  • Ability to work independently on a small team.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills, with ability to manage multiple projects at different stages simultaneously.

Location & Availability

  • This is a full-time role 9am-6pm PT (with 1 hour for lunch).
  • Candidates must be local to Los Angeles or willing to relocate. This position is available partially remote (with about 4 days per month in our Koreatown office for shoots in the Planetizen studio) or fully in-person in our office.

Compensation 

  • $50,000 - $62,500 / year depending upon experience.
  • Paid time off (15 days increasing to 20 after four years).
  • Holiday time off (~10 days per year).
  • Medical, Dental and Vision insurance (95% employer-paid).
  • Company-sponsored 401(k) plan with employer match (after 60 days).
  • Performance and compensation reviews annually.
